Schools in the 21st century are very different from schools in the medieval period.

Today, we have different buildings, different technologies, different subjects - even different students! 

Today, schools operate under the supervision of the government. But back in the Middle Ages, almost all schools were attached to the local church (or monastery). Churches were a major source of education and charitable services, even back then.
